Tentative Itinerary

3/4/2020

Depart Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) to Oslo, Norway.

3/15 - Sun

Upon arriving at Oslo Gardermoen Airport you will be picked up by our private Motor Coach for the approximately 2.5 hour drive to Sjusjøen.

3/15-3/22

Sjusjøen. Ski to your hearts delight on the 300K+ network of perfectly groomed ski trails. Check out the dog sledding or take a trip to Lillehammer to visit museums or do some shopping. You may take a bus or ski down and take the bus back.

3/20 and 3/21

Birkebeiner Race days. Non-racers may watch the races by the Sjusjøen Arena (last food stop) or out along the course. If you don't like crowds or would rather go for a long ski you may take off on any of the many side trails and not even realize that 10,000 racers are passing through the area.

3/22 - Sun

After breakfast we are picked up by our private Motor coach and transferred to Oslo. Dinners are own your own.

3/22-3/24 OSLO: Accommodations with big Norwegian breakfast is at a centrally located hotel within walking distance of many popular sights. You will explore Oslo according to your own interests. Fore more information on what to see and do in Oslo see www.visitoslo.com.
3/24 Return to the US. (Sjusjøen/Oslo Group). You will cath "Flybussen" (The Airport bus) for your transfer to the airport. The Airport bus stop is right outside our hotel and runs every 20 minutes.

3/22 Transfer to Venabu for the Optional 2nd week of your Norway Adventure
3/22-3/28 Explore Venabufjellet and the Rondane National Park area for another aspect of your Norwegian skiing experience. After an exhilarating day in the wilderness return to the warmth of the hotel for hot tea, a sauna and relaxation. After a fabulous buffet dinner, you may enjoy social gatherings, lectures, piano music and dancing or just curl up with a book or play some board games.
3/28 - Sat Transfer to Oslo. Mode of transfer will depend on the size of the Venabu group.
3/28-30 OSLO: Accommodations with big Norwegian breakfast is at a centrally located down-town hotel within walking distance of many popular sights. You will explore Oslo on according to your own interests. For information on what to see and do in Oslo see www.Visitoslo.com
3/30 Return to the US (Sjusjøen/Venabu/Oslo group).You will cath "Flybussen" (The Airport bus) for your transfer to the airport. The Airport bus stop is right outside our hotel and runs every 20 minutes.


Post-Trip Options - Venabu/Olso March 22-30, 2020:

You will transfer directly to Venabu from Sjusjøen on Sunday March 22 and spend two days in Oslo at the end of your trip.

VenabuVenabu is a Mountain Lodge located on "Venabygdfjellet" a friendly mountain plateau at an altitude around 950 meters. It is situated on the east side of The Gudbrandsdalen Valley and just south of Rondane National Park. Right outside the door you will find a network of 140K of machine groomed trails where you will have choices of easy short loops as well as longer tours climbing up to an altitude of around 1500 meters. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to venture into Rondane National Park where the trails are staked only (not machine groomed). Venabu offer guided Ski Safaris into the Park (for a fee). You may rent back country skis at Venabu. Guided Snow Shoeing Tours to the spectacular ice falls at "Myfallet" are also a popular option. Accommodations are in simple but comfortable rooms with private bathrooms (heated floors).

Meals are: Traditional Big Norwegian breakfast.Venabu skier You make your own Trail Lunch from the breakfast buffet. The evening Buffet Dinners are a fabulous spread of traditional Norwegian dishes with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients.
The atmosphere is cozy with comfortable lounging areas for reading, playing games, listen to piano music, socializing and dancing. You will find two saunas, an Exercise room, TV room and a ski room with a well-equipped waxing area and helpful staff.
Venabu is more remote than Sjusjøen. There is a large Kiwi supermarket/ general store but not much of a village. – just some private cabins dotted around the area. The closest small town is Ringebu located in the Gudbrandsdalen Valley - 19K down from the mountain where you will find a few stores and a nice old Stave Church dating back to ca 1250 AD. There is no public transportation between Venabu and Ringebu, but you may reserve the Hotel Van (for a fee) if you wish to go there.
